The local karaoke (KTV) scene has been quite competitive in the past two decades. At one time, there were outlets almost everywhere. Then a major shakeout in the early 2000s, which left only that few prominent brands around: K Box is one of those strong survivals.

Through the years, K Box pride itself for setting the benchmark of family karaoke entertainment. Today, it has 9 outlets islandwide and is the largest karaoke chain in Singapore. From the rich songs archive to fine boutique suites, K Box has continue to move with the changing demands and remain in trend. Recently, they have revamped the older outlets to “Manekineko”, moving away from their previous Taiwan feel to the kawaii Japanese style.

The rebranding was certainly a good marketing strategy as the customers may return, thinking that it is the “latest KTV brand” in town. Indeed, the refreshed concept was impressive. We have patronised their Marina Square outlet and was pleasantly surprised with the self-service Drink Bar lounge where you can fill yourself with free flow of soft drinks, hot coffee and tea, titbits and ice cream!  You will be spoilt for choices with the wide varieties of beverages.  They even shown their generosity by providing some comfortable tables and seats for you to go ahead and eat all you can.

The general decoration at the outlet was young and colourful with large drawing of the cute iconic cat on the wall in almost every room.  In case you are unaware, Manekineko is a famous cat doll in Japan that symbolise the lucky charm for happiness.  K Box adopted one with the left paw raised, which means it invites people (left paw raised means invites money).

Indeed K Box strive to please and awe the patrons.  Besides the free flow titbits and beverages, the Marina Square outlet has wifi for you to surf the net while waiting for your turn to sing.  You could even download an “MyKara” apps that enables you to browse and select the songs as well as control the key and volume at your own handphone!  We have stress tested the apps by operating two handphones at the same time and the system was still capable to manage.

K Box’s Manekineko at Marina Square has certainly raised the bar of karaoke experience.  A 2-hour session on weekend (before 7pm) is only $17/pax.  Considering all the frills they are offering, this is really good value for money!
