EVENT: I DID 51 BURPEES FOR OUR NATION!

In conjunction with Singapore’s 51st Birthday, our fitness interest group, Torture Camp invites you to participate in this meaningful celebratory event that display the strength and unity of Singaporean. We are calling for men and ladies, young and old to execute 51 standard burpees together! All participants will be given an exclusive event tee (see images) and the act will be captured on video, which will be posted on Torture Camp’s Facebook page. The participants can also choose to express their well wishes for Singapore on screen. Please refer to the full details of the event below.

Venue : Toa Payoh Town Park (sheltered pavilion)
Date : Thursday, 4 Aug 2016
Time : 7pm (registration starts from 6:30pm)
Fee : S$19.90 nett including an exclusive event tee (the comfy Dri-fit material) and “Torture” workout after the filming

IMPORTANT: All participants must be capable to execute 51 standard burpees. Please seek your doctor’s advice before participating in this activity. Please note that Torture Camp and Yummychitchat.com are not responsible for any injury, mishaps, death or any claims of compensation arising from the event.

ABOUT TORTURE CAMP
Welcome to torture camp! We are a band of unqualified people, who meet every week (usually Thursday evening) for the most intensified military style exercises you could ever imagine. From varied combination of push up, sit up, and legs kick to the killer burpee, jumping around, and sprinting, we strived to expend all energy at the end of the session. Interested? WHY ARE WE HERE?
We were initially dragon boat rowers belonging to different camps. Like all competitive sports, we were race opponents and very often suspicious of one another. However, we have eventually grown to understand that the best way to excel in our performance and personality is to be generous and willing to share. Therefore, we have dispensed the personal agenda and team politics to focus on achieving fitness excellence.

WHAT DO WE DO?
Expect many “patterns” of push up such as diamond, bounce, scorpion, frog push, duck feet, crab etc. Then you have the mummy, zombie, morning darling, starfish, and many more. Expect no less than 200 repetitions of push up and abdominal workout in each session. Sorry, we have forgotten to mention that we will usually have the High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and tongue dragging cardio segment as well! We don’t call it Torture Thursday for nothing!

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO?
Our experience with dragon boat rowing taught us that we have to synchronise our rowing with the team and very often, we have to match the fast pace rowers in front of us no matter what. Translating the good principle into our plan of slimming down or improving fitness level, most often we are unable to reach our goal by “taking my time” or “doing it on my own”. By suffering together in arduous workout, we can be motivated to do better. Our pride will push us to the limit. The buddies around will remind us to be focus on our mission. We can see for ourselves the impossible is possible. We can follow the lead of the stronger one and try to be the same. The wise man said, if you want to be successful, learn from the successful people. They were right.

HOW TO JOIN US?
While many interest group out there will impose fee for participation, our workout session is entirely free! We just wanted to meet fellow fitness enthusiasts and keep motivating ourselves.
