Updated on 14 Dec 2011 – Finally, we have sorted the photos of I12 Katong. Since our priority is on Food, we have included mostly photos of restaurants at I12 Katong.  For your viewing pleasure!

I12 Katong is the replacement of the old Katong Mall, which is just a stone throw away from the retrofitted Roxy Square. Since this is probably the much talk about shopping address, we have eagerly check it out this morning.

To our dismay, we see similar mistakes found in Roxy Square: the ceiling and the luminosity were mostly low. In terms of appearance, this new kid on the block is definitely no match of the gigantic Parkway Parade. However, I12 is not going to let the big boys break their arms so soon as they have rope in many credible names on the directory: Breadtalk / Toast Box, Din Tai Fung, Food Republic, Market Place, and Golden Village cinema. I12 has also intelligently positioned itself as a late night shopping mall with many of the restaurants serving into wee hours (till 3am on weekends and eve of public holidays!)

But we are sure that I12 trumpcard could be the GV cinema. The word “cinema” has certainly added sparkles to the eyes of the people in Katong, Joo Chiat and Marine Parade estates. For at least 20 years, many people have questioned on the lack of a cinema in the prestige district.  Therefore, this is definitely a long-awaited and welcome news to the movie-goers there.

Sources says that GV Katong will opened its six halls and two Gold Class auditoriums on 22 Dec 2011.   The cinema features digital screen and sound system, stadium seats and also in-cinema dining at the Gold Class theatre.  To complement the Katong’s Peranakan heritage, on the menu are Peranakan cuisine such as Otak Samosas, Assam Fish with fragrant Basmati rice, Nonya Kueh, in addition to Chef Chris Foo’s signature western dishes.

Although we are skeptical towards the potential of I12 at this moment, we still pray for the lasting success of the shopping mall and GV cinema so that we could have a place to hang around after the filling dinner at the ravely reviewed Katong Laksa or Astons Restaurant.

Location: 112 East Coast Road Singapore 428802
Operation Hours: 10am to 10pm (Major restaurants serving till 1am on weekdays and 3am on weekends and eve of Public holidays)
